CĂ irdeas is Gaelic for âfriendshipâ. And friendship is exactly why former distillery manager John Campbell started the annual CĂ irdeas limited releases back in 2008 â exclusively for Friends of Laphroaig. The 2020 Port & Wine edition carries on this tradition with a multi-cask aging process.â â While some of their single malt is matured in their classic ex-Bourbon casks, another batch is aged in second-fill Ruby Port barriques. Finally, the two are combined in red wine casks to complete their journey as a wine finished whisky. This rounds out their famously rugged flavours of peat smoke and iodine with hints of dark chocolate, honey and pink peppercorn. âSip their 52% vol Laphroaig CĂ irdeas Port & Wine neat or add in a few drops of water to discover even more layered flavours.
